OPEN ENROLLMENT PROGRAM
Wisconsin's inter-district public school Open Enrollment program allows parents to apply for their children to attend school districts other than the one in which they live. The Open Enrollment program is also available to current district residents, (1) who move out of the district during the current school year and wish to return to Elmbrook School District in the fall of the coming school year, or (2) who anticipate moving out of the district prior to the coming school year and would like to be eligible to return at that time.
The Open Enrollment application period is established in state law as beginning on the first Monday in February and ending at 4:00 p.m. on the third Friday that follows the first Monday in February. The application periods for upcoming school years are as follows:
2010-11 school year: February 1 to 19, 2010
2011-12 school year: February 7 to 25, 2011
Statewide, parents/guardians must submit an application to the non-resident district of their choice during the application period to be eligible for consideration. Once the application period begins, applications can be completed online at http://dpi.wi.gov/sms/psctoc.html. A lottery system is used to fill Open Enrollment seats and establish grade level waiting lists.
